So you might be asking yourself,
at what sort of table does this couple dine?
Well maybe not, but here it is. Like pretty much everything else in our apartment, it's a hand-me-down to which we added our own little touch. We got the table from Pete + Glo. It was the right size for our dining room and I liked the architecture of it, but the finish was a little icky.
After using a heat gun to strip off the waxy coating, the wood wasn't in great shape to just do a stain, so we decided to paint it. KC came up with the idea for the place settings, and I painted the sort of reverse-stencil tediously, with help from my mom of course.

Love that ... wow, so much creativity !!!
You two are so friggin creative and hilarious. I was checking out the blog so I will comment now since I am at the bottom of the page now. Also, I saw the pic with you guys holding the Estonian version of Harry Potter. I have a confession....I like Harry Potter so much, sometimes I wish I was a wizard.
so great!
how did you paint the place settings?
a little tough to explain in a comment, but i'll do my best! i traced a plate & flatware onto some cardstock and cut each piece out so that i had a paper version of a place setting. (a circle cutter helped on the plate!) i placed the stencils on the prepped table, then sprayed a couple of coats of kilz primer over them, enough to be raised up from the wood. removed the stencils and sanded the edges of the sprays so they blended, and then applied the green, using a large brush for most of it and a small brush around the edges of each piece (a bit tedious, but the primer helped a lot). then we used a gloss finish to make it shine! hope that helps!
